Olathe Chiropractor | My Quality of Life | Dr. Kirk Iodice

First off, let me say…I know. I can see the look of skepticism on people’s faces when I say, “chiropractor.” I’ve been there, done that. You know…the whack ‘em, crack ‘em and ship ‘em out experience. I’ve been a part for the revolving door that many chiropractic offices have become. I’ve been one of 3 appointments scheduled per 15mins. I know.

I also know that after I had my first son, I found myself in the ER not able to walk. I was 23 years old and my legs could not carry my own weight. That is not normal, friends. I also couldn’t take a breath without an incredible pain shooting down the middle of my back. I was getting sick of doctors (and yes…other chiropractors) telling me that my body was just having a hard time adjusting to lugging around my rather chunky baby. They wanted to keep me medicated and give me steroid injections in my discs (none of which I’m saying is wrong – I just didn’t want to live that way). I also felt like I had arthritis. Every joint in my body, down to my toes, ached. Ever since I was a kid I had battled with not only back and joint issues, but also headaches caused by TMJ. Before I was in high school, I had chipped/broken at least 4 teeth and ground through or broken 3 mouth guards. That is some serious teeth grinding. After my trip to the ER in July of 2008, I decided I needed to make yet another change in my care.

I prayed. And I mean…prayed. I needed God to intervene and either miraculously heal me or work through my physicians. I’ve seen Him do both in my life. I would lay in bed and cry because the pain wouldn’t let me sleep and there were few medications I could take due to my choice to breastfeed our son. Needless to say, I was at the end of my rope. Enter Dr. Kirk Iodice.

I don’t even remember what I Googled, but his practice popped up. I gave his office a call and got scheduled for my initial exam. Let me tell you…that was the most extensive physical I had ever received – and I was an athlete in high school and college! It took roughly 45 minutes and he surprised me when he said he’d look over all of his notes and go over his findings at my next appointment. Whaaaat? I just spent 45minutes here and he isn’t going to fix me?!?! He wanted to present me with a comprehensive report of his findings and a clear course of treatment. He wanted me to trust his judgment from the beginning. Well, I informed him that I had just had an MRI of my low back and I’d have the results by our next visit.

Okay…fast forward to my follow-up.

I walk into his office knowing the results of my MRI. I offer them to him, and he stops me. He wants to tell me what his findings are before hearing what the MRI results have to say. He lays it out for me. He’s pretty confident that I have at least one bulging disc as well as multiple issues caused by my untreated TMJ. Then he asks what the MRI results are. I have 2 bulging discs in my back (and I later have another MRI to find that I had 2 bulging discs in my neck as well). He was spot on. As he began talking about the treatment plan he had laid out for me, I could barely concentrate because I was focusing so hard on holding back my tears. There have been moments in my life that I’ve recognized God’s voice speaking loud and clear to my heart. That was one of those moments. I knew right then, that He had answered my prayers and brought into my life a doctor who cares. A doctor who is compassionate. A doctor who listens. A doctor who is determined to change the status-quo in his industry.

It’s been 2.5years since I walked into Advanced Chiropractic and Rehab, and I can tell you that Dr. Kirk has done nothing but continue to confirm that God is using him to really touch people’s lives. Through the use of exercise (yes, he gives me homework), nutritional guidance (you really are what you eat), soft tissue release, and various other techniques, I’ve NEVER felt better. I have my ups and downs due to some chronic issues I deal with, but my quality of life has improved leaps and bounds.

Why am I telling you this? There is NO WAY OrangePeel would be possible if Dr. Kirk wasn’t a part of my health care team. Not only did he help me reach a level of wellness that makes being a mommy and photographer enjoyable, he helps me maintain my wellness. Being a photographer is physically demanding in ways I would have never expected. That equipment is heavy. Sitting at a computer for hours on end is terrible! Being a mommy is equally demanding. I have big babies and Dr. Kirk helped me feel great throughout the entirety of my second pregnancy. I’m able to play with my boys! Something that would not be possible if I would have accepted my physical condition 2.5 years ago.

Another reason I’m telling you this? I share what I’m passionate about. I can’t help it. I have to tell everyone! I want others to know that there is hope of a better quality of life. Every person I’ve referred to him tells me how thankful they are that they took my advice; that it was one of the best decisions they’ve ever made for their over all well-being.

If you’re in the KC metro area and you’ve been looking for someone to help you improve your quality of life – give him a shot. When I say “help you,” I mean this…he will hold you accountable for the choices you make that contribute to your discomfort or pain. If you want someone who works magic without you having to change anything in your life, he’s not the guy for you. But if you’re looking for someone who will partner with you to take your wellness to the next level, I dare you to try and find someone better. Here’s the link to his practice:

For all the skeptics out there: I am receiving absolutely no compensation for writing this. He doesn’t even know I’m writing it! If any of you become a patient of his, I’d love it if you could come back here and leave a comment letting me know what you think. Be sure to tell him I sent you!!!

For all those hoping for some pics to browse…come back soon!:)
