OrangePeel might be expanding. That is a strong might. Anyone who knows me personally, knows how beautiful and divine I think birth is. It leaves a woman changed. Not just the woman though. It changes everyone in the room. It doesn’t matter how many births a person is privileged to witness, he or she walks away astounded at what the human body is capable of – regardless of the procedures needed (or not needed) to welcome that little babe into the world. I have been privileged to give birth twice thus far in my life. They are by far the most precious moments I have. No one will ever know what a woman experiences the moment she hears those first cries and looks her baby in the eyes for the first time. Not even another mother. There are intimate details that only our Creator can share with us. Pregnancy and birth carry many of them.
I’ve been privileged to walk along side a handful of my friends and family as they welcomed their sweet baby into the world. They are moments I will be forever grateful for. It’s no light thing for a mother to allow another person to share in those moments. I’ve seriously considered going back to school to become a Nurse Midwife or even attaining credentialing as a doula. Unfortunately, both positions demand a substantial time comment that I cannot afford to give while my boys are still young. So, what is the next best thing? Birth photography.
Over the next 2-3 months, I would like to explore this tender world within photography. I want to take the time to seriously explore if this is something I am able to capture in such a way that a mother can look back in 20 years and relive those brief moments when she said hello to the newest piece of her heart. This is where all you fabulous followers come in…
I need you to pass on the word. I’m looking for mothers who are due to deliver between the end of November and the end of January. Here is what will be included should they choose to welcome me into their family for this brief time:
Full coverage of the birth (“full coverage” will be determined by the mother and myself) – Please know…this is just as much for mothers who deliver via cesarean.
High Resolution DVD of the edited images
I will be on-call for up to 2 weeks before and 2 weeks after to the estimated due date
Cost: $200 (I wish I could offer this for free during this trial period…but I still need to pay childcare :))
So…get the word out there. I will only be able to accept a limited number of mothers as this is very time intensive work. I promise…I’ll cry…and you won’t even know I’m there.
***Edit: This post was written in October of 2011. While I am still interested in expanding into Birth Photography, these rates are no longer available. Please fill out the contact form for more information***
