Today is the day. Our Peter Elliott Van Slyke turns 1 year-old. Every mother out there knows it’s a bittersweet moment. You’re so happy to have made it through the first year of sleepless nights and awe-inspiring milestones, but so sad to realize the last year went by in a blur. He started out life at 9lbs 2.2oz and 20.25in and has continued to grow into a large part of my heart. I love this little man and I can only hope (and pray) that he grows into his name. The Peter of the Bible was a spunky character indeed. He had his share of blunders, but how he loved Jesus! He was there during the Transfiguration, was the first of the Apostles to see Jesus after his resurrection, and later preached with an unexpected boldness and authority on Pentecost (and continued to do so until his martyrdom). Tyler and I pray often that God will grow our boys into unapologetic and passionate followers of Jesus. As I look to a future full of wonderful memories, I also look at the past year will grateful eyes seeing how God has blessed us with such a sweet spirit to love on.
Here are a few factoids for you…
*Peter’s middle name is a reflection of our love for The Elliotts and time they spent pouring into Tyler and me during our time at K-State.
*He began crawling at roughly 7 months-old and took his first steps shortly after at 9 months-old. He’s a squirmy fella who rarely takes a moment to rest.
*He LOVES playing with different types of balls. I wouldn’t be surprised in the least bit if he took up baseball at an early age – he certainly throws like it already.
*Though he only has 6 teeth, there isn’t much in this world he hasn’t figured out how to gum into a manageable mush.
*We often hear him laughing to himself while in his crib alone. He is so full of joy!
*I’m so in love with this little boy, that I’m fighting tears while I write this.
Before I get too terribly mushy…here are some images from his cake smash that we had on Sunday afternoon. This baby needed no coaching what-so-ever! Once we put that cake in front of him, he was all about tearing it apart!
Skyping with Na-Na!
Those blasted fingers!
Of course, big brother needed to “help”.
He seriously took care of that cake!
Happy Birthday sweet boy!!!
I think I’m finally ready to schedule that first hair cut.
